I’m Lisa Swerling, an artist making tiny worlds in boxes called Glass Cathedrals. Inspired by the power of the miniature to communicate big ideas and emotions, I’ve spent nearly twenty years making thousands of artboxes – in Cape Town, California, and now London.

This site contains "off-the-shelf" Glass Cathedrals  - a collection of my favourite designs from the last 20 years, which I make to order. 

Glass Cathedrals have been shown in galleries, museums, art fairs and exotic locations around the world, from the Anthropologie Gallery in London, to San Francisco’s epic Exploratorium Science Museum, at the Highgate and Hampstead Literary Festival and the beloved Telluride Film Festival.  Most recently hundreds of thousands of people have been introduced to Glass Cathedrals through the Small is Beautiful touring exhibition – the world’s biggest collection of miniature art.

Thousands of Glass Cathedrals now grace people’s homes, described as ‘sparkling heirlooms’ and ‘pockets of joy’. Whether ordering a unique custom commission or an off-the-shelf design, each Glass Cathedral is made to order, and individually titled, signed and dated.
